Movie Review: Safety Not Guaranteed

Category : featured, Latest News, Movies

You have to admit that you’ve always wanted to go time traveling. Whether you are taking a DeLorean, the TARDIS or H.G. Wells’ machine, we have all dreamed of going back in time. In reality we know it’s not possible (yet). But what if you came across an ad that said “WANTED: Someone to go back in time with me. This is not a joke. You’ll be paid after we get back. Must bring your own weapons. I have only done this once before. SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED.” This was an actual ad that I first heard about on the internet show Diggnation and now it has turned into a movie by FilmDistrict.

The movie is about three people who work at a magazine that come across the ad and decide to find out who this person is and what he is all about by answering the ad. The movie stars Aubrey Plaza (Scott Pilgrim), Jake M. Johnson (New Girl), Karan Soni, and Mark Duplass (Jeff Who Lives at Home). It was directed by Colin Trevorrow, written by Derek Connolly, and produced by the same people who did Little Miss Sunshine.

Rick’s Top 10 Movies of 2011

Category : Latest News, Movies

As I said on the podcast, this year has been great for movies.  There was possibly only one movie I didn’t really like and if you have already heard last week’s podcast, then you already know what my Top 5 movies are for this year.  However, in case you missed it, I will clue you in to what they were, but you will have to listen to the podcast for more detail.

Before I start, I just want to make it clear that the movies I picked are the ones I thoroughly enjoyed.  You may not agree with my list and that is perfectly fine.  In fact, if you don’t, please feel free to post a comment below with your own top 10 of 2011.

With that said, here is my list under the cut:

Some S**t We Like 042

Category : Podcast, Some S**t We Like

In the first half of this Super Happy Fun holiday edition of SSWL, Ryan O’Leary and Francis Sky join us and explain what they loved about 2011. Then we get down to brass tacks and shared our own top five movies and games of the year. With our lists out of the way, we went through some very complicated math (fucking addition) and calculated the Some Shit We Like movie and game of the year (Please note that the calculations included only the lists of Rick, Mike, and Bryce).

Major thanks  go out to both Ryan O’Leary and Francis Sky for joining us this week. Please be sure to keep up with Ryan at ryanolearyfilms.com and @thebloodymess on Twitter. As for Fran, you can web-stalk him on the official Facebook page for The Massacre Twins as well as @massacre_twins on Twitter.

We have had a great time doing the show this year and an equal amount of enjoyment came out of individually creating and sharing these lists with you. All that being said, please sit back, relax, and enjoy our final show of 2011!
